As Ben Blue pushes his herd north to the railhead, Max Bell is being pushed out of Las Vegas, New Mexico by a hard as nails town marshal with a strong dislike for gamblers and drifters. Bell could have fit into either category. When Blue and Bell come together, they each find a good friend and a worthy companion to face the trail ahead. What lay before them would demand strong men with nerve.
Ace High Ben Blue Book 3 edition by Lou Bradshaw Literature Fiction eBooks
The first two books, Hickory Jack and Blue, were written in first person (Ben Blue). They should be read first in that order before reading this book. They are all great books and all 99 cents, so how can you go wrong? Ace High introduces a few more characters and is written in first person by one of them, Max Bell, a very likable and tough as nails gambler who can also punch some cows and use his rifle and six shooter. He meets Ben Blue a little into the story and together, they and their friends have one heck of an adventure. Like the first two books, this one was extremely well written. Lou Bradshaw is now my favorite western writer. I just love his style and look forward to each new book to see what new calamity his characters now face.Product details

Ace High Ben Blue Book 3 edition by Lou Bradshaw Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
He can handle more than cards
Max Bell grew up with cards; but he also learned about cow-punching, guns and reading people. He meets a long-lost lover, Isadora (Izzy) and they make some tentative plans to meet in a month or two in Denver. Meanwhile he looks for a job with a herd heading north. Along the way he meets the famous Ben Blue and they team up driving Ben's herd.
There are some lawmen, some rich ranchers and some cowboys who can't be trusted; and others who can be relied on. Rustlers try to take the herd which costs lives and makes them short-handed. They hire more men but the rustlers are persistent. So there is enough action to keep everyone satisfied and on edge. Even if they get the herd through to Pueblo, there are still cheats and double-crossing villains willing to kill for a share of the money.
Can he and Izzy meet up and if they do can they make a go of it together?
Another good read by Lou Bradshaw. Really, in my opinion this one is more about Max Bell than Ben Blue even though they both are in the book. In the beginning I thought we were never going to get to Ben Blue and the the last several pages were also about Max Bell. In between they were together on a long, long, trail drive.
It is a good, easy to read western, some shooting, some knife action, cattle rustling, gunning for revenge all the usual western action. Mr. Bradshaw makes a good story and winds it all together so it will hold you attention.
If you like a book, not just a western, with out a lot of sex or curse words then you should like this series. The ones I have read so far have been like that. Hold you attention but you don;t have to think real hard, just a good old western story.
As usual, Bradshaw's stories are great and hard to put down. I give his writings 5 stars. However, I have to downgrade the books I've purchased from . They are poorly proofread, if at all. They are full of misspellings, missing letters and punctuation, incorrect punctuation, etc. For example, in this book, the use of "anti" instead of "ante" when putting money in the pot is repeated often. I guess that's to be expected for 99 cents.
purchase. Why that Ben Blue is something else. He usually is a kind person but let something happen to one of his drovers on the cattle
drive; he does not take kindly to that! Let a rustler try to steal his herd of cattle, and your might end up pushing up daisies! This book is mostly about Max Bell, gambler. He backs up Ben quite a bit getting the cattle to market. A truly good western. I have read just about all the "Blue" books and this book does have some new characters but these books are all Numro Uno. They all have a good story to tell and I haven't been disappointed with reading any of them. Thanks Mr. Bradshaw you done yourself proud again.
Gotta put Lou Bradshaw among my favorite authors. Ben Blue book 3 is an attention getter from page 1. Not your run of the mill "Gun Slick Shootem' Ups" but, a Western thriller. The cattle drive and the constant threats of rustlers, Indians and near-do-wells will keep you thoroughly engrossed. This is one of those "can't putter downers" and will have your wife yelling to come to supper. So, Giddy Up."
Ace High is the third book in Lou Bradshaw's Ben Blue series. Although I have read and enjoyed the first three, Ace High is a standalone book. Some references are made to characters in the first two novels; however, reading the first two is not necessary to get the full understanding of this one.
Ace High is told from a new characters point of view. Both of Max Bell’s parents were Riverboat gamblers traveling from the Puget Sound to San Francisco. Besides understanding the intricacies of gambling, by the time Maximillian Bellefontaine reached his 10th birthday he already was fluent in French and English, could get by with Latin and on his way to picked up Spanish.
Now grown he is an experience gambler and cattleman who is well traveled, having has been to Denver, Cheyenne, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. He can handle himself with his fists or pistol, but when he realized his lady friend, “Izzy” Isadora Rollins was looking for a more binding commitment, he ran like a quivering pup to places unknown.
Years have passed the next time he sees Izzy. By this time she is twice a widow, an accomplished gambler and the owner of the Plugged Nickel Saloon in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their kindling relationship picks up where it left off and by the time it roars to a consuming fire, the local sheriff who is concerned with the local economy and the contributions by tax paying citizens runs Max out of town. Not for killing a conman in self-defense, but for nearly killing surly rancher, John Slack during a high stake poker game after the sore loser narrowly missed in his attempt to slash Bell’s throat and received a crushing blow to the wind pipe in return.
Taking a break from his trek toward Denver, Max learns from a would be bounty hunter, young James L. Tate at a saloon that Slack has put a $100 dead or alive bounty on his head. Shortly thereafter the two strike up a friendship and travel together looking for an opportunity to hire on as cowboys driving cattle to market.
Enter Ben Blue, shorthanded and suspicious of the trail boss, Ralls that he hired to drive his 3,500 head of cattle to market. Ben hires Max and “Tater” just in time to deal with bushwhacking rustlers in cahoots with Ralls and his hand-picked band of outlaws.
The plot thickens as the author expertly weaves a variety of deadly, dangerous and memorable characters as the game unfolds, skirmishes and bodies mount and the cards from this action-packed adventure are laid on the table leaving only the bounty to be raked in by the winning hand.
I really enjoyed this quick and thrilling Wild West adventure and can hardly wait to rope and pull in the next in this entertaining series.
Giddy up!
